I have had my identity stolen and when I became aware of this I was almost 7,000.00 in DEBT, so after getting many letters from the credit card companies that I did not apply for these cards and my information was stolen.  Along with a Police Report I  typed many letters and got the cards  removed from my credit report But, As this happened I watched my credit score go DOWN VERY QUICKLY, I was shocked I was the victim and my credit score just kept going down, down, down. Now I have POOR credit I did obtain 3 credit cards and always pay the card off monthly, Does this help me by paying them off every month or not?? But just a note KEEP YOUR INFORMATION THAT IS PRIVATE, PRIVATE IN A SAFE!! THE PERSON WHO DID THIS WAS MY X PARTNER OF 17 YEARS.

However, I'm curious as to your next step once you resolved the medical bill situation.  Did you pay the creditor and subsequently write a letter to the credit bureaus? I have a $284 medical bill I can't recall not paying, but I would like to resolve the matter this year.

Get an unsecured or secured credit card if you have bad credit or a limited credit history. A new credit card reporting to the major credit bureaus can help build or rebuild credit history. Never max out new or old credit accounts. Make small monthly charges and pay them off on time or in full each month. Credit scores will increase as long as you keep the balance 10% or less of the available credit limit.

In order to have you added as an authorized user, the banks will require the name, date of birth and social of the to-be authorized user (that is, you). In addition, we request legitimate copies of this information because consumers (not us) try to pull shenanigans, for example, giving us fake social security numbers. When that happens, it puts us at risk, our card holders at risk and other clients (like you, potentially) at risk by being associated with fraud. So, we vet our clients so as to protect them. Excuse me to suggest that you have it backwards, because if a company is not doing those things, they are suspect.
Only then will your credit truly start improving. If asking how to improve credit score quickly, adding tradelines or some other form of positive data is the only way. By doing this, you can cut nearly a year or longer off of building your score to the approvable range, and many times far beyond that. Tradelines come in two different varieties, installment and revolving. Installment can be auto, mortgage, student loans, and personal loans. These are collateralized and do no impact credit as much as revolving lines do. Since there is no collateral with revolving tradelines, they are unsecured–in that sense they are a form of signature loan akin to “I owe you in good faith,” and can count for a much as 70% of the credit score, which is why revolving tradelines are the best answer to “How to improve Credit Scores?” there is.

Keep as much space as possible between your account balance and credit limit. To make sure the decreased balance gets reported to the credit bureaus, find out when your creditors report to the bureaus. Otherwise, the advice you have given is great and works well for a quick boost but having the ability to remove lines of information from your credit history is even better because once it is gone, it can no longer affect your score. BTW - don't take my word or anyone elses for that matter, educate yourself! You can find either of the sources I mentioned just by Googling either of them if you want and I promise you, the more information you have, the better!

Enter Your Reply I would like to point out that this is inaccurate as to not having a credit inquiry on a pre-approved card offer. That is not true they have always always ran a credit even on all pre-approval ones that I have ever dealt with. I was given an invite recently for a relatively new company and I decided to try it and they pulled a hard inquiry on my credit anyway not to mention that they couldn't finish the process something happened on their website and so nothing ever went further and then I received another pre-approval in the mail after that I'm afraid to try again cuz it's going to ding my credit more

First, the basics: A key component of your score is your credit-utilization ratio—the amount you owe on your credit cards as a proportion of your card limits. Utilization is calculated for individual cards and in the aggregate for all your card accounts. The lower your utilization ratio, the better.
